Margery Pimentel
Artist Statement

I'm a Brazilian living in Canada for 6 years. Like most immigrants I went through,

and still go through ups and downs, and I have many stories to tell.

I didn't usually do manual work and I always found myself lacking in artistic skills.

However, during this group I realized that embroidering makes me feel calmer. I want to show people who think they can't embroider that it's not difficult and that it's possible.

To participate in the Art Therapy group was a great opportunity to rethink my immigration process and remember that despite the difficulties I also had moments of overcoming and accomplishments.

M and the Sun

My first embroidery represents the letter of my name in yellow which is my favorite color. I used the color purple because it is a strong color and represents part of my personality. I also embroidered the sun because seeing the sun and feeling its energy is something very important to me. Sunlight quickly affects my mood, for me sun is the energy of life. The flowers represent my joy of living.

My Grandmother's House

I have great memories of my childhood at my grandmother's house in Brazil. All the neighbors are close sharing their routines.

Children playing hopscotch on the sidewalk.

Many happy memories of that time.

Rua Veloso Guerra, 67

I used several colors that for me represent the happy childhood I had.

My Biggest Challenge

One of my biggest challenges was having to restart my career in Canada. I'm having to study hard to earn my registration in Canada.

I chose stronger colors that for me represent the seriousness and importance of the subject.

My Dreams

I have dreams related to my career and traveling.

I dream of doing a PhD in psychology and I would love to travel the world. I still have a long way to go, but I know I will make it!
