Artist Statement
Since I was young I have always worked in the arts.
I am now discovering another creative area, which is ​​embroidery. A very interesting and beautiful experience that has given me a lot of pleasure to practice.
In addition to helping me to continue exploring my creative and artistic side, it also helped me to come out of social isolation during the waiting period of the immigration process and the pandemic, because it was done in group sessions. Even if online, being among people of the same language as mine (Portuguese), made it a great opportunity to socialize and recreate a network.
Self-Love
My first embroidery is the letter M of my name, and I placed it inside a heart like this, symbolizing the recovery of my self-love. That when going through various situations, we end up forgetting to look at ourselves. And sometimes for various reasons since childhood, when we don't receive the necessary love, we grow up not knowing how to love ourselves because we don't learn what it's like. So rescuing self-love, there's the embroidery that will always remind me to love myself unconditionally.
Phoenix
And still with the letter M, here I name it Phoenix.
It symbolizes rebirth... I am rescuing myself as a woman and my old self, and now with more maturity and knowledge.
The Emotional Tent... (The Circus)
The embroidery of a circus reminds me of happy days when everything in childhood was difficult. When the circus came to town, it brought better days. It's a process of time, just like it's migrating when the season ends.
The season is the phases we overcome.
It's about wherever you are, carry your smile and dreams with you.
The ballerina, in addition to being a symbol of delicacy, is also very strong. It is at the center representing me in life.
Be strong and delicate, but where you migrate with the circus... be a happy tourist. It is not easy to set up the tent, but it is guaranteed that after a lot of effort the show will be a lot of fun.
Everything Is In The Suitcase
Me, the children and the bars breaking.
Just like a little bird, I feel trapped without being able to come and go.
I carry with me my most precious possessions, my children.
The embroidery is colourful to remind me that the waiting process is long, but if we are together we will make it because together everything becomes easier and lighter.
The palm trees and the hammock remind me of a rest scene, which we will soon have.
The Fundamental Piece
This embroidery is about my dreams for the future.
That is nothing more than a project of accomplishments and conquests for a better future.
I want to receive my immigration papers, I see myself successful in all areas, being financial, emotional and spiritual. My adult children, we are going to be a close-knit family with a pet and my heart will have a more open space for a possible relationship. And the dove symbol is there representing peace in our lives.
