Artist Statement
I came to Canada in my teen years.
I learned how to crochet with my mother when I was young. I enjoy doing crochet, cross stitch, needlework and during this group I learned embroidery.
Doing arts is something that is part of me. It is something that my mother taught me and it will never die. Also, I believe that Art is a good therapy for people who are experiencing depression and anxiety.
It was important for me to feel part of the group, and this experience brought me back to my country. It made me feel more calm.
There is no happiness without love
I decorated the letter of my name G with these symbols because I love nature. The yellow for me represents light and joy, it is a colour that makes me happy.
The heart expresses that I feel that everyone needs love in their life.
It will always be a memory
that I hold of her
When I was 12 years old I asked my mom if she knew how to do crochet. She said: “Yes!” So, she taught me and started to teach the other girls in the neighborhood as well. Because of her I still crochet today.
Animal Lover
I used to raise animals and the most beautiful memories are when I used to feed them every morning.
One day, one of them got startled and when she stood up one of her hoofs lend on my foot and I got hurt really bad.
I still have a mark that reminds me of her.
Even though, I still love animals.
We Grow Through Learning
I came to Canada when I was 15 years old and had to learn the alphabet in four hours.
Everything that we go through is a lesson and a blessing. Sometimes we must go through challenges, for us to learn and be strong, and go on with our lives.
My belief is that everyone deserves respect and
to be valued.
Master Chef
Something that I am very proud is of how well I cook!
I love to cook food from many different cultures, including my own. Baking beautiful cakes is one of my specialties.
I cook by heart, sometimes I create recipes without using measures and the result is really good because of the love that I put into it when I am cooking.
Interior Design
My passion with decoration started by reading decoration magazines. I used to see magazines
and I fell in love with decoration.
It is something that I would like to have an opportunity to work on one day.
